Amazing…. no other words. Rest in peace.

One week from today I will be done forever with class at Union (…and hopefully will be done with my 20 page research paper). In two weeks from today I will be able to call myself a Union graduate. This is probably one of the most scary, exciting, confusing, and strange times of my life. There are so many mixed emotions going on inside of me that I cannot exactly identify how I’m feeling.
On the one hand I’m so excited for the possibilities that lay ahead of me. On the other I’m terrified of those same opportunities. Right now I am caught in the middle of desperately trying to finish my school work while also trying to embrace my last 2 weeks of college. Which to prioritize!?!?
But, if one things drives me nuts, it’s people warning me that the “real world” is so awful that I had better take advantage of the end of “the best 4 years of my life”. I’m sorry but I refuse to believe that this is true. Even if it is true for some people, I will try as hard as possible to prove them wrong. Travel, learn, experience, love — these are all things I still want and need to do.
Just yesterday, a friend and high school classmate of my two good friends died in a car accident. She JUST graduated from Yale, and my friends describe her as an amazing, smart, beautiful person. This is a terrible tragedy — one that no one can understand. This girl and the driver were both wearing seat belts, were sober, and driving the speed limit. WHY??? I can’t even begin to imagine the pain her friends and family are feeling.
I can’t help thinking that tragedies like these serve as a warning to the rest of us. Yes, it causes fear and advises us to be careful behind the wheel. But it also reminds us that every day is a gift, and we are not guaranteed tomorrow.
I recently got a job working for South Bay Mental Health so thankfully I do not have to worry about applying to jobs after graduation. In order to keep going, I have to believe that “the best is yet to be”. This is my pledge to work hard in life…… but play harder. Life is short so we better live it.
